Murphy Medical is a family practice located at Ardkeen Shopping Centre. It continues the excellent level of care provided to patients that was started by Dr Denis Kennedy in 1979. He has recently retired allowing Dr Siobhan Murphy to takeover the practice.
All of our doctors are interested in the management of chronic illness.
Diabetes has become a common condition. The complications can be life-limiting and life-threatening.
We partake in the Diabetic cycle of care in conjunction with the HSE to deliver comprehensive diabetic care to those with a DVC or MC
We encourage optimal management with attention to lifestyle modification, medication and prevention and management of complications.
Hypertension is a major risk factor for stroke and heart attacks and we are committed to targeting blood pressure to meet international standards.
We utilize 24 hour bp monitors to optimize bp control which is the gold standard of care.
At Murphy Medical we have a special interest in antenatal and maternity care and enjoy sharing this journey with you. We provide Preconception counseling and advice Combined antenatal care under the Maternity and Infant Care scheme that provides a number of free visits during your pregnancy that is shared with an obstetrician. Conditions that are not related to the pregnancy are not covered by this scheme. Our practice midwife has over thirty years experience and forms a vital part of our team to ensure you have the best possible care available. The new baby is seen at two and six weeks for checkups and mother is seen at six weeks. All of our doctors and nurses are ready to provide advice and reassurance on feeding and development. We also endevour to ensure that Mum is looked after too and screen for post- natal depression and provide advice on post natal contraception and well-being. We encourage all our new babies to avail of the free GP care under the under 6 scheme which can be done on line at www.gpcard.ie We encourage that all babies avail of the free childhood vaccination programme. We also advocate that expectant mothers receive the flu vaccine and the whooping cough vaccine.
We are very conscious that our patients lead busy lives and require timely access to their doctor.
We provide on the day appointments for medical emergencies and aim to facilitate all our patients as soon as possible.
We believe this is vital in order to provide a comprehensive medical service to our patients.
We strongly encourage all our young patients to be vaccinated and are passionate in preventing the re-emergence of life-threatening childhood illnesses. We participate in the national immunization programme for children and provide vaccinations starting at two months of age. We provide advice on care pre and post vaccination.
All our our doctors have extensive experience in contraceptive management and family planning. There are many differnet forms of contraception and your doctor will help you choose the correct type for you. Options available at the practice include, Emergency contraception Oral (the pill) Patches, Injection, Fitting of long acting reversible contraceptives such as Implanon, Mirena and Jaydess We are also happy to advice and refer for permanent contraceptive methods such as tubal ligation and vasectomy. We also provide STI (sexually transmitted illnesses)screening and education.

We participate in cervical check which is a free service to all women between the ages of 25-60. This is the best way of reducing your risk of cervical cancer. It is estimated that cervical screening can prevent 75% of cervical cancers.
Practice nurse Breda Butler and all our doctors are trained in cervical screening and we encourage all of our eligible patients to participate.
The menopause can be a difficult and challenging time for women as their bodies go through a major change. Experiences vary widely between women and symptoms are many and varied. All our our doctors have experience in managing these symptoms. We provide information and advice and blood tests where necessary.
All of our doctors are trained in cryotherapy. Cryotherapy is the use of liquid nitrogen to treat minor skin conditions. It is an easy and effective treatment that can be used on adults and children

The first group for vaccination are those over 85 yrs (Level 1) and only when this group has been vaccinated can we move to the next group (Level 2) and so on until vaccinations are completed for all groups.
